The design's inspiration stems from the universal desire to explore the world. Huang believes that the essence of travel is not about the destinations, but about viewing the world through one's own lens and living a unique life. This philosophy is reflected in the design, which serves as a constant reminder of the world outside and the comfort of home.
What sets "Hiding Our Time" apart from other designs is its unique use of materials and light. Slim, natural stones are used to create a harmonious connection between the living room and the walkway. The book wall at the entrance combines with horizontal linear light, mirroring the metal framework lighting under the TV cabinet, creating a visually striking effect.
The design process involved the use of various materials such as iron metal, slim stones, wood pieces, pandomo paint, venice paint, wallpaper, glasses, steel, and wood flooring. The project, which spanned from November 2015 to April 2016, was executed in Taipei, Taiwan, covering a site area of 145 sq.m.
One of the key features of the design is the abstract world map graph in the bedroom, created using geometric line structure metals. This allows the owner to mark his travel records, adding a personal touch to the space. This feature is a testament to the owner's love for travel and the designer's ability to incorporate personal elements into the design.
The design faced challenges due to the varying ages of the users. The solution was to adopt a neutral light grey color scheme for the public space and the host's bedroom, creating a simple and calm atmosphere. The elder's bedroom, on the other hand, features a splash-ink pattern wall cloth, serving as a visual focus.
In conclusion, "Hiding Our Time" is a unique residential design that beautifully combines the themes of travel and home. It's no surprise that it was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. The design is a testament to Cheng-Yuan Huang's innovative approach and his ability to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also deeply personal.
